the moon and the tides

This is a view of the full moon as seen from my house in Hawaii last night.  It is considered a "super moon" because it is closest to the earth in its elliptical orbit.

And this is the effect of this super moon, creating what is known as a "king tide".  These very high tides can flood low coastal areas.
