Seeing Clearly II

Okay, so we're paying attention now, right?

So how clearly do we see?  What is real?  Is what our brain telling us accurate?  Or is it a shorthand perception-- a quick glance, a quick assessment, a quick conclusion which is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Our temple's Dharma Talk today was about right view.  Much of the talk centered on perspective and understanding as a critical part of right view.  But is not "no shortcuts" part of right view as well?

On Individuality

Individuality is freedom lived.

Individuality is only possible if it unfolds from wholeness.

The Wisdom of Rivers

Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

No ego

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.

Interrelatedness

Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.

Pay Attention VIII

In Hawaii, thousands of bee colonies have died off.

Recent news reports have described nine out of ten wild hives dying, and 30-35% of domesticated hives dying.

Michael Kliks, president of the statewide Hawaii Beekeepers Association, said, "It's going to end in disaster. It's almost too late."

The official explanations include: infestations of varroa mites, nosema spores, small hive beetles and the weather.

Are we paying attention yet?

Details

Sometimes, in photography, as in life, the details get in the way.  Dispensing with them can allow us to see more clearly what is important.

Noble nature

All that is noble
is in itself of a quiet nature,
 and appears to sleep
until it is aroused and summoned forth
 by contrast.                         ~Goethe

Seeing Clearly

You shouldn't chase after the past
or place expectations on the future.
What is past
    is left behind.
The future
    is as yet unreached.
Whatever quality is present
you clearly see right there,
    right there.
Not taken in,
unshaken,
that's how you develop the heart.
                    ~The Buddha
